A Story of Gratitude: My Korean Family 🇰🇷-🇨🇺💫
When I began organizing cultural experiences for travelers from around the world, I never imagined that one day I would meet people from the country of my favorite TV series. But that’s exactly what happened. Because the magic of genuine connections knows no language, distance, or cultural boundaries.

They came from the other side of the world with eyes full of curiosity
They are members of Servas Korea, part of an international network of travelers committed to peace and understanding through human connection. As the coordinator of Servas Cuba, I had the honor of welcoming them in October 2024 and accompanying them on their journey through my country. They came from the other side of the world with eyes full of curiosity, backpacks full of history, and hearts completely open. I welcomed them with the warmth of my homeland and the sincere hope that they would experience more than just a simple trip. And they did.
Together we explored Havana, with its vibrant and mixed soul; Viñales, with its postcard-worthy landscapes and legendary tobacco; Santa Clara, where we shared the living memory of Che; Trinidad, which captivated us with its colonial charm; and Varadero, where the sea gifted us moments of beauty and serenity. Each place was more than a tourist destination—it became a stage for connection, listening, and human exchange.
One of the most touching moments was when they met my mother. We shared family time, and as always, she welcomed them with that simple and genuine love that has taught me so much. Seeing them connect with her was deeply moving.
In that moment, I knew they were no longer just travelers—they were part of my home.

From the very first day, I never felt like a stranger. From minute one, we were already family. They offered me affection, care, and attention. They cooked for me, we danced, we laughed, we shared stories… and I was immensely happy by their side. I was, and still am, deeply moved by how, despite our cultural, linguistic, or racial differences, we managed to build a bond that was authentic, human, and profound.
Beyond the tours or shared activities, what we experienced was a true transformation. They discovered in Cuba a living history, a joyful resilience, a unique way of celebrating life in the face of adversity. I learned from their serenity, their respect for the collective, and their elegance in the smallest gestures.
At our farewell, we cried, we hugged, we made promises to meet again. And I realized that something inside me had changed forever.
Today, I miss them. I miss their “안녕하세요” (hello in Korean) every morning, their way of seeing the world with respect and gentleness, and their quiet presence. But more than missing them, I am grateful. Because, as a quote I hold dear says: “Gratitude is the memory of the heart,” and my heart does not forget 💝.
Blessed are those who see us with the eyes of the heart ❤️.
I thank God and the universe, because meeting them has been a gift of life.
Thank you, my Korean family. This home will always be your home 🫶🏾🇨🇺💫
Heartfelt thanks to Servas International for making these unforgettable encounters possible 🫶🏾
