Cool and misty in the morning but not a drop of rain and 50 Servas friends enjoying a long weekend together in the picturesque town of Burghausen.
The castle with its 1.0541 metres of length is the centre of any visit in Burghausen. Seemingly endless are lined up battlements and towers along a ridge. At the foot of the mighty castle nestle the squares and alleys of the colourful, listed old town with an almost mediterranean flair.

After check-in in the Youth Hostel on Friday we had a most interesting guided tour through the old centre of the town.

After dinner we all gathered in a meeting room for chatting and singing. Our friends in Austria created a beautiful songbook with international songs we were singing till late in the evening.
On Saturday the castle was the main attraction. A guided tour in German and English showed us the castle and its history. Did you know that the German word Schlitzohr comes from the middle age, when they slit the ear lobe of a thief?
After lunch some took a stroll around the lake Wöhrsee, some went for a cup of coffee and some went to rest.
This evening we danced to the pieces of music everybody wrote down on a list.
On Sunday the planned ride on a traditional boat (Plätte) was cancelled because of low water. Instead we walked up the terrace of the Austrian side of the river Salzach to a beautiful point of view and finally to a restaurant up there for lunch.

Way too soon we had to say good-bye. We renewed acquaintances and made new friends, we invited each other, and we promised to visit. We hope to meet again next year.
