Brief review of SERVAS` history,

the celebration of its 25th anniversary in Costa Rica

In the early 80`s, Mrs. Kate Lazarus (former SERVAS International Secretary) visited Costa Rica and brought with her the ideas supporting the SERVAS organization.

Several persons initiated the SERVAS chapter in Costa Rica, quantity which increased to the current number of 72 active members, all feeling really happy about participating in this type of organization.

A special gathering was organized for the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the SERVAS chapter in Costa Rica. In this meeting we all participated in common Costa Rican games and fun activities during an entire afternoon. We also dedicated time to analyze the situation of potential travelers, hosts, day-hosts, and other important issues. Furthermore, comments were presented about the past GA celebrated in Spain by the members that attended this meeting.

Our main conclusion from the gathering was the great expectation for new travelers to arrive to CR in the coming year, in order to show them our natural treasures and the kindness of our people.

Carmen Mora M. National Secretary, Costa Rica

Winds of change for SERVAS MEXICO

STATUTES and Members’ CONTRIBUTIONS were approved and Board of Directors for Servas Mexico was elected.

The first National Assembly of Servas México took place on May 28 and 29. It was most relevant to set the basis for a new era in the organization of Servas in our country.

The event was arranged for 9 a.m. in the Shakespeare Forum, an important cultural centre in México city. About 20 members from the Federal District as well as from other states - Aguascalientes, Cuernavaca y Veracruz - attended.

After a short presentation by each member the agenda was voted and a moderator was chosen . The meeting ran in a positive climate, and its results can be considered very successful, considering that the main objectives that had been set could be reached, the creation of statutes for Servas Mexico.

Mrs. Rosalinda Fasen de Gortari’s work was given recognition and we also gave thanks to her for being our President for 15 years.

Every change implies important challenges and Dr. Héctor Peralta as well as all other members of the new committee reaffirmed their commitment to work as parts of a team for the growth of Servas Mexico.

As months went by, Servas Mexico has witnessed the realizations achieved, based on shared efforts. Now, new ambitious projects have been set, as the first meeting Servas México-United States 2006, creation of a youth committee in Mexico, subscription of Servas México in the Youth Exchange program, participation in the first meeting Servas Youth Patagonia ’06, updating of the Servas host list Mexico 2005, monthly meetings in Mexico city and activities fostering integration with members of other cities in the Republic of Mexico.

¡Let’s celebrate the democratic change and for the wellbeing of Servas Mexico!

Erika Haller, Bulletin coordinator, Servas México
