ITALY

We are happy to welcome our first collective member: a few days ago the “Centro Gandhi”, that has its seat in Ivrea, Piedmont, has joined our organization!

The Centre was founded in 1987 by the local branch of the International Reconciliation Movement and, as its name itself suggests, has been focusing its activities on peace issues ever since. It is home to many associations operating to endorse ecology, human rights, pacifism, biological agriculture, less polluting ways to produce energy: Legambiente, Amnesty International and Servas itself are just some examples. Ever since 2004, the “Centro Gandhi” hosts Ivrea’s seat of the “Centro Studi Domenico Sereno-Regis”, a twin institution in Torino, as well.

The Centre rejects any kind of violence, both structural and cultural, and supports any project aiming at the promotion of people’s and animals’ rights and at the defence of biodiversity. All the people working at the Centre are volunteers and such is its financing. Among its activities there is the organization of meetings, lectures and book reviews and, last but not least, the so-called “wood voluntary work days”, in which help in agricultural tasks is exchanged freely.

I am thankful to Nella Ramella and Antonella Gilli who made it possible for the Centre to become a Servas member. The “Centro Gandhi” is undoubtedly worth a visit for any Servas member caring for the future of our planet, for peace and for the study of new models of economic and social development. The Centre is in via Arduino, 75, Ivrea, some 30 km north of Torino, Piedmont. You can arrange an appointment over the phone: 0039-0125-43460 or 0039-0125-658578 or via email: meo89[at]libero.it.

I wish the Centre will find many new friends through Servas!

Giuliana Cupi – Servas Coordinator, Piedmont, Italy.

Pathways together 2005, Italy

It was the 25th sentierinsieme which took place in Italy this time. It was a well organised meeting with 200 participants from 9 countries! There was a lot of talking, walking and sightseeing in the beautiful landscape of Valsesia in Italy. Luigi and his team of Servas Italy did a great job in organising the meeting and also the two different trekkings following the meeting. Thank you to everyone who helped to realise this great event.
