SI MONTHLY NEWS SEPTEMBER 2005 Editorial

From SI Exco News

International World Peace Day

The International World Peace Day was on 21 September. I noticed it passing. I headed an email to a friend with that as a title to go with the date. I mentioned it in some classes. Not a very constructive way for a member of a peace organisation.

What could I have done? ..........................

1. Given it a 5 minute discussion in every class.

2. Put a poster up in the staff room.

3. Got on with those Amnesty letters that I am always meaning to do.

4. Written letters to papers and magazines.

5. Talked about it with other members of staff.

6. Done an editorial on it for Servas Monthly News.

Out of those I have done one of the items and that only because I put it there to show I had done something. I am not impressed with my efforts.

What did you do?

What were you doing on 21 Sept 2005?

Please let us know how much more constructive you were.

Hurricanes and others ........

The weather is something that affects us all. Recent weather has had an adverse effect on many. Weather problems in Vietnam may have less media footage than those in America but are just as important for those involved.

In this issue some people have responded to these effects.

One of many .............

During the last month or so, at times in the past but not hopefully at times in the future, there has been debate, at time acrimonious about the relationship of Servas with other similar clubs. There are many clubs around the world which offer sharing of ideas, experiences, accommodation. Each has its own interests and types of members. People with many interests may be members of a number of these clubs. Ways of people meeting others of a similar mind to themselves. Servas is one of many. However we have the common interest of people. We need to get on together in a non competitive way, to be friends and to share together.

To quote Hospitality Club:

Our Forum is moderated just like Servasnet, and we DO accept comments about Servas. And for me Servas is NOT a competitor, but a PARTNER.
