EARTHQUAKE IN PAKISTAN AND SERVAS

A Message to Servas International

It is unfortunate for all the people who dwelt in the northern part of Pakistan. They did not even have an idea that they were about to face the most frightening incident of their lives. The people who lost their precious lives in this happening have gone to eternity & are not present any longer to see the miserable plight of their greatly injured parents, brothers, sisters, wives & innocent kids.

A few innocent children who had a narrow escape from this disaster are anxiously looking for their parents. They don’t know that they will never ever be able to see them again. The eyes of all the witnesses are compelled to throw tears upon this pitiable lot, the death toll in the earthquake not reached hundreds or thousands but hundreds of thousands. The most beautiful view of green valleys and mountains ended up in graveyards with absolutely no charm behind.

At this miserable condition, Servas Pakistan has played a very important role, our National Secretary Mr. Muhammad Naseem Khan’s request on the 56th Anniversary of Servas International at Lahore, made all the members of Servas to collect every possible donation including food, medicines, blankets, tents and other wearing woollen clothes. Servas Pakistan has also launched three relief camps with nine Servas volunteers at Lahore, Peshawar & Parachinar to collect and convey donations to the earthquake victims.

Donations:

I also humbly request to all the members of Servas International to take active part in conveying every possible help to the victims. It is also highly advisable to all the Servas National Groups of the world to donate at least USD 100 in the Servas Pakistan relief fund for the help of earthquake victims.

Please send your remittances to help the victims or you may directly send your donations to the following address:

SERVAS INDIA

Many of you over past years attending General Assemblies will have met Harivallabh Bhai who was the founder member of Servas India. Word has been received from our dear friends in India of his failing health. Servas India National Secretary Dr. Ramesh Sharma is currently visiting the ashram at Baroda and I have asked him to give Harivallabh Bhai the news that “we are saddened by the news of his ill health and offer a prayer for his well being". I am told that Harivallabh Bhai is considered as being the ‘Mahatma Gandhi of Servas India’.
