Servas in Ghana

Hi everyone,

Greetings from the Ghana branch of Servas International. This is to tell you about our new website www.servasgh.org and about some of our other activities and plans towards towards World Peace.

There are about over two thousand (2000) young people from over fifteen (15) countries in West and Central African who are in Ghana studying English and other professional courses. They have chosen this country because of the peace and stability that prevails here.

These people need mentoring and guidance so that they can achieve success in their studies and prepare well for the future They also need to be well equipped as future leaders to be able to promote peace and tolerance in the region and wherever they go in the world.

We in Ghana have began a new project working to establish Servas here, start a Youth club and will have an International Peace Conference. Attached is a copy of the speech I gave at one of the Peace seminars and also some pictures of the event. (See Peace, p9)

We in Africa starting from Ghana would like to work hard and contribute what we can to make the world a better place. Please send us your comments and suggestions.

In peace, Yawa Sellaisse Ababio, National Secretary, Servas Ghana

Servas in San Francisco

MAY GATHERING:

We met at St. Gregory of Nyssa Church in San Francisco on May 23 for pizza and salad and good companionship. Our discussion focused on "Indispensable things to take with us when traveling". There were a great variety of helpful suggestions to make traveling easier. We'll have a list of these at the July dinner with a chance for you to add your own suggestions.

Homestays in Korea

I have come back home last Thursday and immediately jumped back to the work spot because of the job responsibility. In my position in hospital it is easy to leave one or two days but it is very complicated to go away like one week.

However, the experience in Korea was great and the travel as a whole was much more than I expected. It is the first time that I was so close to Korea people and family. I have had three home stays by Won Hyung Park, Jun Hong Lee and Hans. They have made my stay so comfortable like my home and have shown me a lot things that I might never had the chance to see otherwise.

We visited UN memorial cemetery in Korea, the museum in Busan and have also visited two small private clinics in Masan. I have a lot of talk with the three families as well as with Fred and other Servas members at the home of Hans. I have also enjoyed the a Korea Karaok, where we sang and danced. This made me so close to Korean. Won Hyung took me to the special wonderful Buddhism spot, a world heritage and with beautiful cherry flowers. The scene of the fly over white flower leaves just like the snow in the sky, The Korean dancer in the park and the delicious food of which I cannot remember the name were just unforgettable.
