Hi everybody!
You're right, my friends! I'm glad to hear all your words!
I am Antonio, from Spain, I joined Servas in 2005 and CS in 2007 -or so-. I love the spirit of Servas but now I am travelling only with CS... Why? Because it's so easy to find people and to prepare the trip anywhere anytime, without bureaucracy and lost of time and energy. CS is safer, quicker cheaper and many other things.
World is living a Change, a big one, and to keep on staying in an old era -paper based- it's a direct way to die. There are reasons to keep the spirit and mission of Servas, but only bad excuses to avoid this change to the digital era.
It's a pity that Servas leaders don't understand that. Servas is getting old and out of date, but their values are still needed in this world!
Best regards and good luck, Antonio, Spain
Comment from editor: It does depend how one plans a trip. I do not plan further than one day ahead, maybe only half a day ahead. I camp a lot, generally keep away from towns and so have no access to the internet. I find that sitting in my tent in a farmer's field means that paper copy is essential if I decide that I would like a host for the next night. And I do not wish to spend a lot of time and money down loading large lists from the internet, eg: France 253 pages. And yes, I do need the whole list as I have no idea where I will go until I get there. Last year I met someone who recommended an airfield in the Massif Central, so I went there. Then in the Massif Central someone recommended turning west for float plane flying at Biscarosse south of Bordeaux, so completely unplanned I went there. We need both digital and paper copies until the older generation such as myself die out. (30 or 40 years?) :-)
