Baerenthal, France

  • Are you between 18 and 25 years old?
  • Would you like to make friends with young people your age from other European countries?
  • Are you curious to learn about their background, exchange ideas and views with them?
  • Then our Servas Summer School may be a reason to go back to „school“ during your holidays!!!!!
  • We invite 20 young people from all over Europe to spend 5 days together, to learn and laugh, study and play together. The programme includes workshops, excursions, some lectures. Don‘ t worry. You will not just sit and listen. The idea is to get you all actively involved and at the end something will have been created to remember this event, ...a clearer picture of the culture(s) of Europe.
  • Europe is undergoing great changes, borders are disappearing, but what do we really know about each other?
  • Face-to-face meeting with young people from other European countries may also shed a new light on what you seem to know from TV or newspapers.
  • So off to Baerenthal where young Europeans meet and exchange their views on what Europe means.

If you want to be part of this, apply for Servas Summer School European Culture(s), 11 to 16 August, in Baerenthal, France.

Lille, France

Hello! Bonjour! Welcome in 2004! On behalf of the hosts in the north of France, we would like to remind all SERVAS travellers that in 2004, LILLE, our main city, is the "Cultural Capital of Europe"! There will be events all year round, and hosts are looking forward to a lot of travellers. We are at the crossroads of Brussels, London and Paris. The official website for the calendar of events is: www.lille2004.com. The hosts around Lille have decided to organize a special week-end October 30- November 1st. As it'll be the end of one week school Holidays in France, we hope some travellers will also be able to join us during that week and stay with families . We'll have activities during the week-end: visits, tours, walks and typical restaurant in French Flanders. Coordinating the accommodation is: André Mazingue (host E19) andre.mazingue@wanadoo.fr , phone: 33 20726992. International Youth Project

Over the last few months, we have had an enthusiastic response from over 30 young people wishing to attend the International Conference in Barcelona. Some are able to fund themselves, whilst others will be reliant on receiving some financial help. In the end, we hope to bring together a group that will be representative of all regions of the world, and that can form the basis of an active network of young people in Servas. Young people will help in the running of the Conference and share their thoughts about how they see Servas developing in the future. At the same time, the group will have opportunity to exchange ideas about important world issues. The theme will be to celebrate the cultural differences within Servas, whilst exploring what we have in common. If you would like to take part on Youth Activities, or put forward any ideas about how the Youth Project might develop further, please let us know. For example, future projects being considered are: 1) Youth Page on the International Web Site. 2) Youth exchanges between two or more Servas national groups, within or between regions e.g. possible multilateral exchange in UK 2006. 3) Looking at how young people with disabilities can travel within Servas. Future projects will continue to be advertised on the Future Events page of the International Web Site.
