From SI Exco News

Extraordinary GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2006                                           eGA2006 Update No. 5

Dear National Secretary

The 2006 Extraordinary General Assembly is to be held at the Park Hotel, Strada Statale 156 dei Monti Lepini 25 - 04017 Latina, Italy between Sunday 2nd and Saturday 8th April 2006.  There is a frequent rail service from Rome to Latina with a journey time of only 35 minutes.  The venue is 12 kilometres from the Rail Station.  Arrangements will be made for a shuttle service to operate between the Rail Station and the Park Hotel on Sunday 2nd April 2006 and a return shuttle service from the Park Hotel to the Rail Station on Saturday 8th April 2006.  Participants will be given more details of this later.

Please note that conference registrations will only be processed by the Reservation Department of the Park Hotel. A Registration Application form will be made available shortly for downloading from our Exco website www.servas.org/siexco together with a Travel Funding application form. Travel funding will only be made available to those participants who meet the criteria laid down.

The registration fee for the conference is Euro 270 (per person in a two/three share room) or Euro 330 per person (for single room occupancy). All rooms at the Park Hotel are air-conditioned. Accommodation at the Park Hotel is available prior to and also after the conference at a cost of Euro 45 per person per day (full board) in a two/three share room and Euro 55 per person per day (full board) for single room occupancy.

All participants are asked to arrive at the Park Hotel no later than the check-in date of Sunday 2nd April 2006.

The eGA registration fee includes:

  • Evening meal on Sunday 2nd April
  • Breakfast, midday meal and evening meal plus morning and afternoon tea/coffee breaks 3rd – 7th April
  • Breakfast, morning tea/coffee break and midday meal on Saturday 8th April
  • Accommodation for six nights from arrival on Sunday 2nd April

The conference registration fee does not include:

  • Drinks (except for the morning and afternoon tea/coffee breaks and for those provided with meals)
  • Telephone calls
  • Extra meals
  • Other personal items

In regard to items for the eGA agenda - the S.I. Statutes ‘IV General Assembly item No. 4’ states “an item may be submitted for inclusion on the agenda only by a national group (represented by its national secretary), or by members of the Executive Committee. All items submitted by member groups must be sent to the President at least six months before the General Assembly to be placed on the agenda of the coming General Assembly. Its expenditure is limited to the budget adopted by the General Assembly.” This means that all items to be placed on the agenda for the eGA must be received by me no later than 2nd October 2005 at eGA2006@servas.org

There is some speculation as to whether the 2007 General Assembly will still take place. Again, I kindly draw your attention to the S.I. Statutes ‘IV General Assembly item No. 2’ which states “The General Assembly shall meet at regular intervals as decided by each General Assembly.” Therefore, I would ask those participants attending the eGA (who have the authority to vote) to please come prepared to discuss and vote on when the next General Assembly is to be convened.

Exco will keep you fully informed regarding the planned eGA 2006 with regular ‘Updates’ such as this one, together with information published on our website at www.servas.org/siexco

In peace and friendship

Geoff Maltby
